چکیده

We examined the distribution of Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, and Pb in one core metalliferous, non-mineralized (background) carbonate sediments (located 69 km northwards), from Pobeda hydrothermal field. Mechanisms metal accumulation (12 samples) were evaluated based on sequential extraction geochemical fractions, including mobile (exchangeable complex, authigenic Fe-Mn hydroxides, sulfides), lithogenic (fixed crystalline lattices) forms. Maps element sediment components obtained using a scanning electron microscope equipped with an energy-dispersive spectrometry detector. In metalliferous sediments, according to X-ray diffraction data, main Fe mineral phase was goethite FeOOH (37–44% carbonate-free basis). The contents Mn reached 31.6 0.18%, respectively, whereas concentrations Zn 0.98, 0.36, 0.059%. coefficient enrichment relative background values varied 16 125 times. exception for which no increased recorded. Essential mass (up 70% total content) represented by residual fraction composed crystallized goethite, aluminosilicates, minerals derived bedrock destruction processes. Among geochemically 90–97% found form oxyhydroxides. same predominant host both (55–85%). A 40–96 % Cd, associated these fractions. sulfide amounted roughly 10% each metal. core, maximum metals their fractions recorded deeper intercepts, observation that might be attributed influence diffused fluids. Our data suggested are mostly accumulated contact zone underlying serpentinized basalts.

Low archaeal diversity linked to subseafloor geochemical processes at the Lost City Hydrothermal Field, Mid-Atlantic Ridge.

The recently discovered Lost City Hydrothermal Field (LCHF) represents a new type of submarine hydrothermal system driven primarily by exothermic serpentinization reactions in ultramafic oceanic crust. Highly reducing, alkaline hydrothermal environments at the LCHF produce considerable quantities of hydrogen, methane and organic molecules through chemo- and biosynthetic reactions. Here, we repo...

Mineralogy, geochemistry and Nd isotope composition of the Rainbow hydrothermal field, Mid-Atlantic Ridge

Petrological, geochemical and Nd-isotopic analyses have been carried out on rock samples from the Rainbow vent field to assess the evolution of the hydrothermal system. The Rainbow vent field is an ultramafic-hosted hydrothermal system located on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, characterized by vigorous high-temperature venting (~365ºC) and unique chemical composition of fluids: high chlorinity, low pH...

Metals in the shell of Bathymodiolus azoricus from a hydrothermal vent site on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.

Specimens of the mussel Bathymodiolus azoricus were collected from Menez Gwen, a relatively shallow (850 m) hydrothermal vent field on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Each bivalve shell (n = 21) was individually cleaned by selective chemical. The residual crystal matrix of each shell was individually analysed for the concentrations of the minor elements magnesium and strontium and the trace elements ir...

Leaching of heavy metals from dredged bottom sediments

Deposition of sediments on land in atmospheric conditions causes many risks connected with environmental protection. Particularly dangerous is leaching of heavy metals from sediments deposited on land The research aimed at assessment of leaching of heavy metals from dredged bottom sediments potentially disposed on land. In this research it has been shown that the leaching of heavy metals during...

Study of heavy metals in bottom sediments of Mahabad river and dam, and investigating the risk of consumption of edible fish in the area

Background and Objective: Heavy metals contamination, particularly in aquatic environments, is an important concern.  Since Mahbad river is the source for supplying drinking water to the city and the dam established on it is used for catching fish and sale in the market, heavy metals concentrations in the sediments of Mahabad River and the Dam, and the possible health risk of the fish consumpti...
